Food & the Immune System

Food & the Immune System

Studies have shown that sugar can lower the strength of our Immune Systems by 50% for 5hrs after eating, and when your stuck at home with an ear to some pretty intense news it's really easy to get snack or treat cravings and sugar just tastes so good! When I'm getting some of those cravings I turn to my bitter herbs. Dandelion, Burdock, Yellow Dock and Chamomile are some of my favorites and can really take the edge off of a craving. But bitters do so much more, the moment you taste a bitter flavor on your tongue, the whole digestive tract is stimulated to start releasing digestive juices priming you to get everything you need out of your food. They are also wonderfully grounding helping you shift out of your mind, into your body and into the present moment. Fear and isolation are a perfect combo to shoot you right out of your body and into your head, and when we're in our bodies it's a lot easier to remember that we are always connected to each other even if we are isolated in our separate homes. Bitter herbs also support healthy function of the liver and can help to move anger or resentment out of the body.
